Yip sadly you often learn by trial an error which does not work for Google. Check out SEO/M Don’ts and share your thoughts. I wish there was a simple step by step guide. who knows with your help we may just get that.
Having done a test for xhtml validation I found 58 errors on my site, took me about 45 minutes to clear them. I have read somewhere that Bing looks at this and can be a stumbling block to get your website to the top results. The link has been added to the tools section so feel free to check your own site it is a free service offered by the W3.org organization. if you have any experience with this please share with us so that we may be more educated.
Having being working with the seo pages of the same sites over time it is clear that change is constant. Your efforts to get your website to the first page of the search and engines and to page one is the same as other website owners and web masters. People keep changing there search terms and criteria to find what they are looking as the internet grows every second there are more choices and more rubbish. I look at my on page SEO every 2 months for most of my website. this helps me to stay ahead of the competition.
My main changes are the meta tags and page names, these are very important. every small change can make a difference that could be the difference between page 1 and page 2 or position and position 2.
